Welcome to my Study of Murder blog site.  My name is Tom Mahoney.  I am a retired police chief, former detective, and currently a full-time Professor in the School of Justice Studies at Santa Barbara City College where one of the classes I teach is “The Study of Murder.”  The main thrust of the course is motivation…..why people, for many and various reasons, murder other people.  The primary purpose of this blog is to interact with my students…both current and former…as we continue our discussions on what I consider to be a fascinating subject.  If you are not one of my students you are still most welcome to join in our discussions.  Rude, abusive, insulting, or otherwise harmful postings will be terminated with extreme prejudice.
